We’re excited to offer Saturday & Holiday Art Days with a wonderful lineup of guest artist-teachers!
Our upcoming theme is “Sound, Shape, Color” How does sound feel as shape and color?
In this immersive class, students will explore the connection between sound and visual art through listening, drawing, painting, and sound-making. Guided by interdisciplinary artist Kendra Calhoun and Sophie Imamura, students will listen closely to the sounds around them, noticing rhythms, texture, tone, and change.
Through guided listening games and drawing prompts, students will experiment with how sounds can become shapes, colors, lines, and movements, gradually developing their own sonic-visual language.
Activities may include experimenting with the sounds of everyday objects, imitating what we hear, drawing, and watercolor painting.
The workshop will culminate in a collaborative sound composition and a collection of drawings and paintings that translate between what students hear, feel, and see
The day runs from 10:00 am–2:30 pm, with a lunch break and time to enjoy Washington Market Park. Students should bring their own lunch.
